World Building
Where is your game going to be set?
My game will be set in the end of 15th century –
the middle ages. When kings and queens ruled the lands and peasants were down
at the bottom of the social hierarchy. But this is an alternate universe where animals
have human characteristics and behaviors – anthropomorphism. My game will be
located in the land called “Amor” ruled by King Kali (who is father of princess
Alicyn), it is the land of the riches and only the poor live far away from here.
What does the world look like?
I imagine my world to have graphics somewhat to the video
game “Isaac Newton’s hidden quest” or the film “Zootopia”. I want to use a simple
and organic design that uses luminous colours in some areas and dark colours in
other areas in my game.

Each
of my levels will play out just as the story is being told. So my first level
will have John travelling from his home village to the markets of Amor. He is
in the market searching for food, and he steals the golden apple. It will end
with Alicyn’s royal guards taking John away to the dungeons of her castle. Level
2 will undergo John trying to escape the dungeon silently. He wanders the
castle in search of Alicyn. The level will end when John finds her and talks
with her. Level 3, John is exiled back to his home village. He battles through
barbarians hired by prince Phelix. The level will end with John finding his
family slaughtered. Level 4, ??. Level
5, John has intense last battle with boss – prince phelix. But John dies due to
a deep cut into one of his organs.

Here is what I envisioned what my world would look like. I was inspired by Super Mario Bros to have a classic platform genre vibe. I will include a mood board to portray the ambiance while playing my game.
What will each of your levels look like?
Level 1 – The Golden
Apple
This level will include John’s poor village and the market
of Amor. The village is located on the edge of woods where it is quiet and
peaceful. The terrain is rough and muddy, houses made of wood and straw. The villagers
are happy hard-workers and cheerful. But they lack food, showing protrude cheek
bones and no muscle. John travels through tall woods to the market of Amor. This
market will contain quite a few people buying things from weapons to food. The
stores will be dull colours but the lighting will be bright. There will be luxurious
shop that is prominent from other stores. This shop contains the golden apple which
shines bright enough to light up the store. I want the consumer to see the contrast
between John’s poor village and market of Amor to feel pity for John and to
understand why John steals.
Level 2 – Power
appetite! /Lust for Amor
In level 2 John is in dungeon with a royal guard. In this
level, John discovers a power as he consumes the golden apple (Not confirmed).
The dungeon cell is surrounded by stone walls and iron bars, with a little
window also blocked by iron bars. Hay, broken wood, and a skeleton is in the
dungeon cell with John. The lighting here will be dark as there will be a few
fire torches to light up the dungeon. I want the consumer to feel isolated and lonely with
the darkness. But also have the player feel hope with the fire torch
giving a sense of curiosity.
Level 3 – Rage and
revenge
Rage and revenge will be about John finding his home village being destroyed and family slaughtered by barbarians. In this level, the houses are burning, there are corpses laying everywhere, and villagers are fighting. The fire is an important aspect in this level, it will be fierce and bright. The fire symbolizes John's rage and the blood will represent his revenge as he seeks the blood of his enemy.
Level 4 – The Monster in the Woods
John is told by the Old Man about a very
powerful sword that he needs to defeat prince Phelix. He must slay a monster
with a gem to unlock the power of the sword. The old man sends John a quest to
find this monster and return to him with the gem. With the gem, the sorcerer
unveils the reveals the hidden power with the sword. This stage will be located
deep in the woods, near John’s home village. Also, this stage will consist of
natural colors being used to convey a sturdy turf the monster owns.
Level 5 – Last Gaze
Last Gaze is the final stage. This will take place in the squirrel kingdom, where the castle is a giant tree filled with acorns. I will use an earth tone color palette to display an organic feel to the level. Last Gaze will include moving platforms, dangerous debris, and royal guards. These are obstacle John must surpass in order to complete the level. For the final battle, it will be set on top of the castle, the background will be colorful sky and the sun is setting. I want the player to feel that everything is against him/her. As if all the odds have turned and its almost impossible to complete. I think that making this level really challenging will force the player to try even harder? and maybe quit haha.
