Asteroids!

Asteroids by ryanc1256 on Gamefroot is a top-down video game
that falls under sub-genre shoot-em-up. It is about your player (spaceship) dodging
and destroying asteroids while flying through space. This game strongly
resembles 1979’s ‘Asteroids’ by Atari, specifically its game-play and art.
Story
Unfortunately, there is no narrative in Asteroids but only
an objective. The objective in Asteroids is to survive for as long as you can,
while navigating this spaceship through space, dodging and destroying
asteroids. I learned that a game doesn’t need to have a story to engage with
its audience. It may be challenge that drives the audience in to video game and
immerse themselves in this challenge. In this case, the challenge is to dodge
and destroy asteroids for as long as possible.
Art
The art in Asteroids is very basic and simple. The player
can clearly see that the game is set in space due to the background art of
stars and darkness. The objects are somewhat detailed enough to tell the player
what it is. Informing the player what is what and what they feel like they
should do. I think art doesn’t need to be eye-drawing or complex to draw the
player into the game. Art can be simple but still grasp the players’ attention
with other aspects the game contains. In Asteroids, I believe game-play is what
keeps the player engaged.
Game-play
The game-play in Asteroids is simple and very easy to learn.
The controls are shown in the description of the video game. The player uses
the arrow keys to manoeuvre around flying asteroids. The controls still need some
polishing and redeveloping. You can shoot beams from your spaceship to destroy
asteroids. It’s fun destroying and blowing things up generally, well, for me at
least but there is no goal to Asteroids. I’ve considered the object
When I first opened Asteroids, I think a bug may have
occurred because everything was moving fast and I couldn’t move. I’ve
considered possibilities of glitches and bugs that may occur and have come to
an understanding that mistakes happen :) haha
