The Young Isaac's Hidden Quest

The Young Isaac's Hidden Quest

Story

Main menu

The Young Isaac’s hidden quest has incorporated its story in the main menu. In the main menu, text is shown on a scroll which introduces the player, the setting and the objective of the video game with a small intriguing description. The story continues in the levels the player must complete by finding hidden objects within the room. The narrative is told through the role of the player who acts as Isaac Newton helper. The idea of having an introduction of the story in the beginning of a game is straightforward. Not the best way to engage with the audience but an interesting and uncomplicated way.

Art

The art style in The Young Isaac’s hidden quest is clearly medieval theme. In the main menu, a paper crumbled with burnt sides displays brief text of the narrative of the video game. Additionally, the font on the paper and title is like the font Old English Text which was commonly used in medieval times. It is very rich in detail and supports the narrative and makes the player want to play more. Moreover, the objects identified in the levels are objects used over 100 years ago.

Where's Wally Page

The Young Isaac’s hidden quest is about the player finding hidden objects scattered in a room. A visual list of objects is shown below the room. These objects are hidden in places the player must look very carefully to find. Once the player has discovered an object on the list, they must click on it to obtain it. After all objects are found in the room, the level is then completed. It was fun and challenging to find some objects cleverly hidden in some places. To an extent, this is an interactive way of children book’s ‘I Spy’ or ‘Where’s Wally’ in which the reader should find particular things that are hidden on pages. Similarly, both medians share the same objective resulting with pure fun or puzzlement.
